Tuxedo Park Community Association

Good Morning,

City Administration took an update on the North Central LRT project to Council’s Transportation and Transit Committee yesterday. You can read the report on Calgary Transit’s Route Ahead website. Moving forward, The North Central project team will be hosting a number of public events through April and May to engage Calgarians on the LRT options for Edmonton Trail and Centre Street. More information will follow in March when these events are confirmed. Below is a general update on the project.

North Central LRT Project update

We spent a lot of time last spring and summer talking to Calgarians about the North Central LRT.  These conversations continue to help us shape the project, and more opportunities to have your say will be provided in April and May. The conversations we had with people across the city were valuable in helping us understand what is important to our community, how future transportation networks can make our communities better and how people think we should evaluate the different options we have. This past fall, the action continued as we worked on analyzing and evaluating potential route options.

Refining the Route Options for Further Study

Using the community’s input about how to evaluate our options, we sat down to the task of analyzing several route options including Nose Creek Valley, 4 Street NW, Centre Street North and Edmonton Trail NE, north of 16 Avenue and south of 96 Avenue. From this evaluation, we narrowed it down to two of our highest-ranking options for further study:

1)      Centre Street North, at street level (at-grade)

2)      Edmonton Trail, at street level (at-grade)

We evaluated the route options based on criteria like:

  • Affordability
  • Safety, security and accessibility
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions

In our evaluations we also considered options for integrating the North Central line with downtown service. Learn more about our evaluations.

Next steps

We’ll be out speaking with Calgarians about our short-listed options this spring. You’re invited to attend upcoming events, including a workshop and a series of Open Houses in April and May. Additional information will be posted online in the near future with event dates.
